Peningkatan Pengetahuan Peternak tentang Fasciolosis pada Sapi sebagai Penyakit Bawaan Makanan (Foodborne Disease) di Kabupaten Boyolali, Indonesia

Fasciolosis merupakan penyakit parasit yang menginfeksi sistem hepatobilier ternak, dengan Fasciola gigantica sebagai agen penyebab di negara tropis. Prevalensi infeksi global Fasciola sp. diperkirakan mencapai 17 juta orang dari 61 negara dan 180 juta orang lainnya berisiko tertular karena berada di daerah endemik. Tujuan program pengabdian masyarakat adalah meningkatkan kesadaran peternak yang tergabung dalam Kelompok Tani Sumber Makmur II, Kabupaten Boyolali terhadap pentingnya pengendalian Fasciolosis secara komprehensif melalui pendekatan edukasi dengan bahasa yang dapat diterima masyarakat umum, dan terintegrasi dengan pemahaman siklus hidup parasit dan inang perantaranya (siput). Hasil kuesioner cross-sectional yang melibatkan 45 orang responden menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar peternak (93,33%) tidak mengetahui bahwa cacing hati melibatkan siput sebagai inang perantara dalam siklus hidupnya. Sebanyak 22,22% peternak tidak mengetahui bahwa cacing hati bersifat menular ke manusia (zoonotik). Peternak (60%) juga mengira bahwa cacing dewasa yang ditemukan di hati yang bersifat menular dan bukan stadium larva infektif metaserkaria pada sayuran mentah. Setelah program pengabdian, peternak memahami pentingnya pengendalian fasciolosis pada hewan ternak secara lebih komprehensif ditunjukkan dengan perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0,001) pada hasil kuesioner. Pemahaman peternak lebih komprehensif dalam pengendalian fasciolosis dalam memutus siklus hidup dan juga memahami risiko penularan cacing hati pada stadium infektif terhadap manusia dari konsumsi sayuran mentah. Pengabdian juga didukung dengan pengenalan ketrampilan praktis pembuat kompos dan silase untuk mendukung ketahanan pangan ramah lingkungan yang berkelanjutan.
